60 years is a long time. Although the remnants of the war are everywhere to be seen in Peleliu (such as this rusting hulk of a junked American bomber), the past has passed. At the island's only restaurant, we spent a delightful evening with a Japanese couple from Hokkaido. We talked about snorkeling, scuba diving, and our experiences travelling in each other's countries.
